Supported UV Polymerized Ionic Liquid Membranes with Block Copolymer

Gigi George, Nidhika Bhoria and Vikas Mittal

In this study, the use of UV polymerizable Room Temperature Ionic Liquid (RTIL) with a block copolymer has been investigated for the generation of composite membranes for potential separation of acidic gases from natural gas streams. Use of RTILs is known to provide significant mass transportation enhancement but with significant shortcomings such as leaching. In order to avoid this limitation, UV polymerized RTIL membranes with poly(ether-bamide) have been generated with superior mechanical and thermal properties. Two different synthetic approaches were utilized in the current study to obtain the supported membranes with different structural aspects, thus, confirming the possibility to control the structure and resulting properties of the membranes.
