Characterization and Confirmation of Papaya ringspot virus-W Strain Infecting Trichosanthese cucumerina at Tamil Nadu, India

Kumar S, Sankarlingam A and Rabindran R

Mosaic and leaf blisters symptoms were observed in Trichosanthese cucumerina (Snake gourd) in regions of coimbatore, India. The biological, physical, serological and molecular properties of the virus isolate were studied. Virus isolate produce chlorotic local lesions on Chenopodium amaranticolor and systemic symptoms on all inoculated cucurbitaceous hosts. The particles appear flexuous rod shape of 750×12 nm under electron microscope. Serologically this isolate identified as strain of PRSV. Dilution end point of virus isolate was 10-4. Thermal inactivation point and Longevity in-vitro of the virus isolate was found to be 55°C and 30 h respectively.
